Rita and I remained very close until her death in 1997 when she died of breast cancer. She was very brave throughout the 9+ years of treatment including bone marrow transplant and fought so hard to survive to raise her 8 year old son and 13 year old daughter but it was not to be. We always had a great relationship and could find something humorous about every situation. Rita lived in Madisonville and was the newly elected County Attorney for Grimes, Madison and Leon Counties. She and her husband, Steve, also owned a title company in Madisonville. Rita was very well thought of in the County as well as in the legal community and was posthumously named Woman of the Year for Madison County. I miss her still.
